Largo do Toural receives €50,000 public lighting upgrade

The approximately €50,000 project has improved lighting on the roads and in the centre of Largo do Toural, a space where pedestrian, urban and vehicular activity converge.

Anyone walking through Largo do Toural, in the centre of Guimarães, will notice that the square is now better lit. This follows the public lighting upgrade, which involved an investment of around €50,000.

Public lighting upgrade at Largo do Toural

According to Guimarães Municipal Council, the work was primarily intended to address the lighting shortfall across Largo do Toural, particularly in its central area. “The previously installed light fittings primarily illuminated the roads, leaving areas used for staying, crossing and urban enjoyment with insufficient light levels,” the local authority stated in a press release.

The new arrangement lights both the roads and the centre of Largo do Toural at the same time, aiming to improve safety, comfort and the use of the public space after dark.

Next stages of Guimarães public lighting plan

Following work at Largo da Mumadona and Largo do Toural, the public lighting reinforcement plan will continue. Rua de Santo António, Avenida D. Afonso Henriques and the area around Estádio D. Afonso Henriques are next in the municipal plan.
